Market Navigator is an interactive map-based marketing tool. It gives your team a visual view of admissions by zip code alongside their marketing activity — showing admitting hospitals, competitors, targets, facilities and their zones all in one place.
The goal is to help marketing teams evaluate their return on investment: how many interactions and dollars were spent on targets, and how many admissions did those efforts generate.
The Market Navigator can be found in the Marketing report folder. Click
here to view.
Market Navigator requires an active PCC integration. Admissions and hospital data are pulled directly from PCC.
What's on the Map?
The map displays several types of markers. Each can be toggled on or off using the marker selection panel without affecting any of the supporting charts.
- Admissions: Shaded areas representing zip codes. The darker the shading, the more admissions from that zip. Hover to see the city/state name and admission count.
- Competitors: Competing facilities are pinned on the map. For SNF Metrics Referral Tracker clients, hovering shows the number of lost referrals within the selected admission date range. Only competitors with more than 5 total lost referrals are displayed.
- Facilities: Pinned on the map with facility name and address on hover. Each facility has three surrounding distance rings: 5, 10, and 15 miles.
- Facility Zones: When turned on, three distance rings surround each facility: 5 miles, 10 miles, and 15 miles.
- Hospitals: Admitting hospitals are pinned on the map. Hover to see the hospital name, address, and total admissions from that hospital.
- Targets: Marketing targets entered by the user are pinned based on their address. Hover to see the target status, address, and any interactions or dollars logged within the interaction date range.
Where Does the Data Come From?
- Admissions & Hospitals: Pull from PCC, including resident address data and hospital referral information. Only admissions with payor codes marked as 'Admissions' are included. Data goes back up to 5 years.
- Targets: Are manually entered by the user through the Targets setup page.
- Competitors
- SNF Metrics Referral Tracker clients: Automatically populated from Referral Tracker lost referral data. When a referral is recorded as lost to another facility, that facility appears as a competitor.
- Non-Referral Tracker clients: Entered manually through the Competitors setup page. The selection list is sourced from the CMS provider database.
Address accuracy is critical. All map pins are plotted using address-to-coordinate conversion. Incorrect or incomplete addresses can result in markers appearing in the wrong location or cause the map to zoom out significantly. A list of blank, null, or potentially incorrect addresses is available upon request.
Filters
The following filters appear at the top of the report:
- Region/State: Filter by geographic region or state. This is configurable per client.
- Facility: Select one or more facilities.
- Zip Code: Select one or more zip codes. Each zip code displays its city and state name. When one is selected, the map shows only markers located within that zip code.
- Admission Date: Filters admissions shown on the map, all supporting charts, and tooltip counts. For Referral Tracker clients, also filters competitor lost referral counts to that date range. Defaults to last quarter. Data goes back to the beginning of the month, 5 years ago.
- Interaction Date: Does not filter the map. Filters interaction counts and dollar amounts shown on the side cards and tooltips. Defaults to 2 quarters back.
How to Use the Map
Market Navigator is fully cross-interactive — clicking on the map filters the charts, and clicking on the charts filters the map.
- Click a zip tile: Filters all charts and the map to show only data from that zip code. Admissions shown will reflect only residents admitted from that zip code.
- Click a hospital marker: Filters all charts to show data from that hospital, including admission trends and the geographic distribution of patients.
- Click any marker: Grays out all other markers and filters all charts to show data for that location only.
- Click a chart element: Filters the map and all other charts to reflect your selection.
- Clear All Selections: Resets all map and chart filters at once.
Show/Hide Markers
Use the marker selection panel to show or hide any marker type on the map (admissions, facilities, hospitals, competitors, targets). This only affects the map display, charts are not affected. If all markers are deselected, the system treats it as if all are selected.
Facility Zones
Facility zones can be toggled on or off from the markers panel.
When turned on, each facility on the map is surrounded by three distance rings: 5 miles, 10 miles, and 15 miles. These zones give your team a quick visual reference for how far your admissions, targets, and competitors fall from the facility. For example, if most of your admissions are coming from within the 5-mile ring but your competitors are clustered in the 10-mile ring, that context can help inform where to focus marketing efforts.
Custom Distance Circle
In addition to the Facility Zones around each facility, you can draw a custom radius circle anywhere on the map to select a specific area. Everything within the circle will be selected and charts will adjust accordingly. Click the Clear All Selections button, to remove it.
